Improvisers from all sort of backgrounds are coming together to connect, collaborate, and strengthen each other.
The music they are making is different to those models found in typical American and European "free jazz" or "improvised music" groups. Instead, an aesthetic has been taken from the ancestors of Australian jazz and improvised music and built upon. This is how cultures develop a strong sense of community and identity; by turning towards their own past for inspiration.
Scott Tinkler and Simon Barker are perhaps two of Australia's most reknowned improvisers, ask almost anyone about their music and you'll hear words like "strong," "intense" and "incredible."
Marc Hannaford is a pianist, taken in and tutored by masters like Scott and Simon, who is now coming into his own as a forceful and engaging improviser.
This album is what happens when the three of them come together . . .
No second takes.
This album is dedicated to our dear colleague David Ades: for his friendship, music and humanity.
