about

This recording marks my first in over seven years, since 2014's "Can You See With Two Sets of Eyes?" (also available through my Bandcamp page).

Recorded live in Australia in August 2019, "These Worlds Are All In The Same Place" demonstrates this trio's flexible and interactive approach to my polyrhythmic, post-tonal compositions. The album title comes from an essay by agential theorists and feminist Karen Barad titled “Troubling Time/s and Ecologies of Nothingness: Re-turning, Re-membering, and Facing the Incalculable.” For me, Barad's phrase makes me think of recursion and creativity.

The trio on this recording was formed soon after my arrived in New York City in 2013 and gradually developed a singular approach to a musical language indebted to experimental improvisers and composers such as Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, Elliott Carter, and Geri Allen. My synthesis of these influences was developed alongside fellow Australian improvisers such as Scott Tinkler, Simon Barker, Ken Eadie, John Rodgers, and Allan Browne. Simon and Satoshi bring their personal histories with them, too.

The group performed in and around New York City regularly before the pandemic. We are grateful to have this documentation of the group.
